Tigers end losing skid, women fall to SWOSU

ARKADELPHIA -- Three Tigers finished in double digits Thursday night as Ouachita Baptist shut out Southwestern Oklahoma State in the final 2:03 to claim a 75-67 win over the Bulldogs at Bill Vining Arena.

Trey Harris led the Tigers (5-6, 2-5 Great American Conference) with 18 points while Mahlon Martin added 15 and Wesley Franklin had 13 as Ouachita earned its second GAC win, snapping a six-game losing skid that stretched back to Dec. 1.

The Bulldogs (3-10, 0-7) took a 7-4 lead just 3:05 into the game, but Martin hit a 3-pointer at the 15:40 mark to knot the score and jumpstart a 14-3 run with Martin, Eric Brown and Harris each adding treys for an 18-10 lead with 12:26 remaining in the first half.

Southwestern pulled within five points before Eric lobbed the ball to Kendarious Smith for a monster alley-oop that pushed the Tigers' lead out to 26-14 with 8:31 to go. The Bulldogs went on a 15-4 run to pull within 30-27 with 3:25 to go as Tre Evans sank the first of two attempts at the charity stripe, but OBU closed out the half on a 9-4 run to take a 39-31 lead into the break with Harris hitting a long 3-pointer at the buzzer off an assist from Jacob Street.

The Tigers rolled to a 46-34 lead just 2:03 into the period. A Wesley Franklin jumper and Harris trey pulled gave the Tigers a 14-point lead with 5:47 off the clock.

An 11-0 run by Southwestern cut the margin to 51-48, but an 11-4 run by Ouachita pushed the Tigers' lead back into double figures with 6:19 to go.

Ouachita will host Northwestern Oklahoma State (3-10, 1-6) at 3 p.m. today.
