Five days of using drugs and arguing with his wife reportedly led to a local man assaulting her, firing a gun at her and barricading himself inside his house until he was forced out by Hot Springs police early Monday.

Glasper Brown, 42, of 206 Rocky Reef Circle, was taken into custody at his residence and later charged with a felony count of aggravated assault, punishable by up to six years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to one year in jail.

Brown remained in custody Tuesday on zero bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit released Tuesday, officers responded to the Rocky Reef residence shortly before 5 a.m. regarding a domestic disturbance with shots fired.

Officers made contact outside the residence with Brown's wife, 39, who stated she and Brown had been arguing and using drugs since Thursday. Early Monday morning, she said she had taken off her wet clothing and placed it in the bathroom.

She said she realized Brown was standing behind her in the bathroom holding a semi-automatic handgun. When he saw the wet clothing, he accused her of having another female in the house with her. She said she grabbed her clothes and started to exit the bathroom when Brown, who was still behind her, fired a shot with the gun.

At that point, she said she threw the clothes to the floor and ran out the front door with Brown chasing her. She said he caught up to her in the street, grabbed her by the arm and hair and "aggressively dragged her back" inside the house.

A short time later, the victim was able to walk outside where she met officers. Detective Brian Branstetter noted he could see bruising to the victim's right upper arm and cuts to her hands from being dragged.

Brown allegedly refused repeated commands from officers to come out. The department's SWAT team officers responded and also began attempts to get him to surrender. After about a two-hour standoff, the officers deployed tear gas inside the residence and Brown soon surrendered and was taken into custody.

Detectives executed a search warrant on the residence and reportedly found a Smith and Wesson 9-mm firearm, two spent 9-mm casings and a bullet hole in the bedroom wall.
