A Hot Springs woman who claimed she was poisoned was arrested on a felony charge Thursday after allegedly biting the arm of a police officer trying to help her.

Robin Lynne Day, 57, who lists an Oriole Street address, was taken into custody around 3 p.m. Thursday and charged with second-degree battery, punishable by up to six years in prison.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Hot Springs police Officer 1st Class Shannon Steed responded to Transportation Depot, 100 Broadway St., regarding a white female "yelling at the buses."

Steed arrived and was approached by a woman, later identified as Day, who told her she believed her food had been poisoned. Steed started talking to her about it and Day became agitated and wanted to leave.

Steed told her she needed to go to a hospital if she believed she was poisoned. At that point, Day allegedly began circling Steed. The officer told her to stop circling around her and Day allegedly grabbed Steed's right arm and began to bite her forearm.

Other officers arrived to assist and took Day into custody. She reportedly refused treatment despite her earlier claims she was poisoned.

Steed was taken to CHI St. Vincent Business Health clinic on McGowan Court where she was reportedly treated for "a red, round swollen area that was bleeding" on her right forearm and abrasions to her left hand.

Day, who lists no prior felony history, was being held on $5,000 bond and appeared via video Friday in Garland County District Court where she pleaded not guilty and indicated she would hire a private attorney. Judge Joe Graham set her bond at $1,500 and issued a court order barring her from contact with Steed or Transportation Depot. A felony review hearing is set for Oct. 21.
