A local man and his wife were arrested Saturday on battery charges after getting in a fight at their residence during which the man allegedly injured his 74-year-old father-in-law.

Colby Joseph Morgan, 28, of 301 Davis Drive, was arrested shortly after 12:30 p.m. and charged with second-degree battery, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. His wife, Christina Lynn Morgan, 32, of the same address, was taken into custody at the residence shortly before 8 a.m. and charged with a misdemeanor count of third-degree domestic battery.

Both Morgans were being held on zero bond and were set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, Hot Springs police responded to the couple's Davis Drive residence regarding a domestic disturbance and spoke to Christina Morgan and her father.

Officers learned the Morgans had been "out on the town drinking." When they got home, they got into an argument that soon turned physical and "woke the house up," including Christina Morgan's father, who attempted to stop the altercation.

The father was allegedly punched in the face or struck with a blunt object by Colby Morgan, causing him to sustain a broken nose and blackened left eye and to fall to the floor unconscious.

The fight between the couple continued and Christina Morgan allegedly grabbed a 6-inch knife from the dish strainer in the kitchen. She was knocked to the floor by her husband and began stabbing and cutting him with the knife.

The affidavit notes Colby Morgan only sustained superficial injuries from the knife cuts and later took the couple's two children with him to a local hospital where he sought treatment for his injuries.

LifeNet responded to the residence and transported Christina Morgan's father to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. A search warrant was executed at the residence and officers collected the knife and multiple blood swabs.

Christina Morgan was taken into custody a short time later and then police located Colby Morgan and took him into custody. The affidavit notes Colby Morgan was charged with a felony due to the age of his father-in-law.
