Genealogy Society to present ‘Escape Room’ program

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Hot Springs Village Genealogy Society will offer a fun "Escape Room" program at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in Room 6 of the Coronado Center.

"We will learn tips and tricks for using several FREE genealogy websites (FamilySearch.org, U.S. Government Land Office, a western state archive) to solve 10 clues using mostly beginner, intermediate and a couple of more advanced skills to summarize the real family story of Corydon Reeder who migrated from Ohio to Iowa to Oregon Territory to Wyoming between 1820s and 1880s," the society said in a news release.

"In the process, we will review how you can organize and improve your own ancestor research and then summarize into a short family story to share. Please feel free to attend even if you don't work on the clues ahead of time -- it will still be a good learning opportunity," it said.

Anyone who wants to test their skills ahead of time can email [email protected] to request the list of clues and background information.

The meeting is open to the public; masks are highly recommended but not required.
