The Sentinel-Record launches subscriber-exclusive content

The Sentinel-Record has been published continually in Hot Springs since 1877, a legacy we don’t take lightly in 2023.

We’ve been reporting on the citizens of this county in every way imaginable, celebrating weddings and anniversaries, the crowning of pageant queens, the awarding of scholarships and good times on the area’s diamond lakes.

We’ve also been there through the tough times, when natural disasters like the January tornado strike, the 1990 flood, and the fires of the early 1900s.

It’s a legacy we plan to continue, even though the way we present the news has evolved with the times.

So today we are launching “subscriber exclusive” content, available only to readers with an active subscription to The Sentinel-Record. Starting today, a selection of stories on hotsr.com will be labeled "subscriber exclusive" and will not be available to non-subscribers.

These stories will be unique to The Sentinel-Record. They won't be stories you'll see on the evening news and they won't be the stories that all news outlets chase — like quorum court committee meetings, school board presentations, classroom projects, local elections …

The list goes on and on, but we’ve included a few specific examples for you:

The discovery of a 20-year-old Ford Escape submerged in Lake Hamilton may have solved a decades-old missing persons case, but did little else to answer the question of how Kerry Joe Angell Jr. died.

The County’s desegregation agreement still relevant, backers say. A two-part look at the city’s desegregation order.

A former "residential mentor" at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts who was arrested last year after sexually assaulting a student at the school in 2021 was sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty.

Subscription models are ubiquitous in today’s world. Think of Netflix, Hulu and Disney. New subscription-based services appear every day — but none of them can cover Hot Springs and Garland County as thoroughly as we can.

If you're not, please consider this introductory rate. Join us as we record the city's history as it continues to unfold.
