Elks Lodge 380 held its second annual Family Fun Dog Show at the Lodge on Sept. 23 with 33 dogs and their owners participating.
Proceeds from the event went to the Piggy Bank Fund, which is used by the Elks to provide financial and social support to the five Human Development Centers in Arkansas.
Along with several competition classes, including Best Costume and Most Talented, there was a Drug Awareness display table, a visit from the Arkansas State Elks Association president and first lady, Dennis and Evonne Darrow, a visit from the superintendent of the Arkadelphia Human Development Center, Kerry Gambill, and a concession stand for lunch.
The lodge also held a silent auction and a raffle, featuring donations of gift certificates from 22 restaurants in the community.
Pat Katayama and her dog, Rita, demonstrated obedience exercises that have won them multiple awards in formal dog shows and allowed them to compete nationally, a news release said.
Both the Garland County Humane Society and Hot Springs Animal Services also participated, offering information about dog adoption. PetSmart donated "dog gifts" and had a display.
"The Elks are looking forward to a show next year, and encourage the community to watch for announcements and attend," the release said.
